AS Balticovo, the largest producer of eggs and egg products in Northern Europe, has completed the acquisition of 100% of the shares in Babičkin dvor, a.s. The transaction closed following clearance by the Antimonopoly Office of the Slovak Republic.
Headquartered in Veľký Krtíš, Slovakia, Babičkin dvor is the second-largest egg producer in Slovakia. The company operates eight farms in the Veľký Krtíš region and supplies more than 110 million eggs annually to all major retail chains in the country. In 2025, it became the first Slovak egg producer to fully transition to cage-free production.
Headquartered in Riga, Latvia, Balticovo has more than five decades of experience in the egg industry. The company keeps approximately 5 million laying hens, produces more than 1 billion eggs annually and exports to 20 countries, primarily within the European Union.
The acquisition marks Balticovo’s direct entry into the Slovak market and creates a platform for further growth in Central Europe. Balticovo plans to expand Babičkin dvor’s production capacity through investment in new facilities, technology and know-how, supporting the development of domestic egg production in Slovakia.
"We evaluated acquisition opportunities across several Central European countries but ultimately chose Slovakia – I was convinced by both the market and the people I met here. And we come with a clear ambition. Slovakia today consumes more eggs than it produces. We want to reverse that within a short period and turn Slovakia into an egg-exporting country," said Vladimirs Mhitarjans, CEO of Balticovo.
Balticovo was advised by WOOD & Company as transaction adviser and LYNX as legal adviser.
